Boom Room Jazz September Lineup

Boom Room Event

9/2 Vocal Night featuring Sarah Greer and Mike Wolter
Join jazz vocalist Sarah M. Greer for a special evening of live jazz
and conversation as she presents new songs from her upcoming album.
“I have learned that playing my songs for audiences is SO important.
It is one thing to sit by myself at a piano and work on a melody or
lyric. It is something completely different to share the energy of a
new song with other players and an audience.” - Sarah M. Greer.

9/9 MN HARD BOP COLLECTIVE The Music of Wayne Shorter

Shorter first came to wide prominence in the late 1950s as a member
of, and eventually primary composer for, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
In the 1960s, he went on to join Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet,
and from there he co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report. Boom
Room will explore and expand on the works of jazz's greatest living
composer with original and creative reinventions of Wayne Shorter's
timeless music!

9/16 Cole Mahlum Experience

Since graduating from the Perpich Center for Arts Education, guitarist
Cole Mahlum has become a busy presence on the Twin Cities Jazz scene,
including serving as weekly host of the Sunday afternoon B-3 Organ Jam
at Jazz Central. Cole will explore the music of Joe Henderson,
Coltrane as well as some more modern "neo-bop" repertoire.

9/23 MN HARD BOP COLLECTIVE The Music of Kenny Dorham
Kenny Dorham played and recorded with the who's who of the hard bop
era such as Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson and so many
more. Always kept in the highest regard by the musicians he worked
with, Kenny never got the public attention that he deserved. "K.D."
had numerous energetic and emblematic compositions that were
synonymous with Hard Bop and the MNHBC will explore these in full
detail at the Boom Room!

9/30 No Room For Squares Jazz Group
A hit on the Sixth Street Stage of the 2015 Twin Cities Jazz Festival,
the veteran No Time For Squares quintet will debut at Boom Room! Led
by drummer Bill Stieger, NRFS features some of the area’s top
veterans, including Jimmie Wallace (sax), Jon Pemberton (trumpet),
Mikkel Romstad (piano) and Adam Tucker (bass).
